Pacific Crest Trail at Vasquez Rocks Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"This mostly flat hike is an easy way to experience a stretch of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) before it heads north toward harsher terrain. The trail winds past natural rock formations and a seasonal stream to a tunnel, then loops back on semi-rugged terrain along the west side of the rocks to the visitor/interpretive center. If you do the hike in late spring, you may encounter some PCT thru-hikers heading north on the 2,650-mile trail.
This hike begins at the parking lot of the Vasquez Rocks Interpretive Center. The modern facility is a great before-and-after base for water, clean bathrooms, and maps, but
you can also shorten the hike by about 0.5 mile by continuing on the gravel road to the lower parking area and pick up the trail there. The PCT starts just inside the gate off Escondido Canyon Road."
