Devil’s Punchbowl Loop Trail

Devil’s Punchbowl Loop Trail Professional Review and Guide

"Tens of millions of years in the making, Devil’s Punchbowl is without a doubt L.A. County’s most spectacular geological showplace. An observer looking down into this 300-foot-deep chasm immediately senses the enormity of the forces that pro
duced the tilted and tangled collection of beige sandstone slabs."

Mt Waterman is actually about 40 miles up Hwy 2 from La Canada. If you park just before and opposite the Buckhorn campground entrance (elev approx 6700'), the trail goes up to the summit, which is just over 8000'. The Jeffrey and Sugar pines are nicely shaped by the prevailing winds up there. Climb on top of the boulders and eat lunch with a great view of the LA basin.
