Weekend backpackers enjoy a reasonably easy trip to a handful of scenic lakes along the New Army Pass and South Fork Trails. Open, rock-strewn basins and sprawling, grassy meadows allow fine views of the rugged Sierra Crest. Although the general area is quite popular, Cirque Lake and South Fork Lakes receive relatively light use. If you have more time, the neighboring Cottonwood Lakes present a fine trip addition.
