Lone Pine Station Ride

Lone Pine Station Ride Professional Review and Guide

"Visit the Lone Pine station on the grade of the old Southern Pacific Railroad, the center of transportation in Owens Valley before the turn of the century. The Carson and Colorado Railroad ran from Carson City, Nevada, to Keeler on the shores of Owens Lake. In about 1900, a Quaker colony was established at Owenyo. Although the Quakers built 42 miles of canals on their 13000 acres, they were among the first to sell their property to Los Angeles City. In 1910, when the Southern Pacific Railroad built a branch from Mojave to Owens Valley, Owenyo was the junction point for the standard and narrow gauge lines. During the period when Los Angeles hauled materials for the aqueduct, Owenyo was a busy settlement."
