Aside from the 0.75-mile climb to Cottonwood Pass, the grade to Chicken Spring Lake is mild, providing a relatively easy 4-plus-mile trip to a scenic destination. Solitude is usually in short supply at picturesque lakes along the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), especially those so close to a trailhead, but Chicken Spring Lake offers more peace and quiet than the ever popular Cottonwood Lakes.
