Chicken Spring Lake

Chicken Spring Lake Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Aside from the 0.75-mile climb to Cottonwood Pass, the grade to Chicken Spring Lake is mild, providing a relatively easy 4-plus-mile trip to a scenic destination. Solitude is usually in short supply at picturesque lakes along the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), especially those so close to a trailhead, but Chicken Spring Lake offers more peace and quiet than the ever popular Cottonwood Lakes."

"Aside from a 0.75-mile switchbacking climb to an 11,000-foot pass, the grade of the trail is gentle, offering recreationists a relatively easy 4-plus-mile trip to scenic Chicken Spring Lake. Views along the way from Cottonwood Pass of the Great Western Divide to the west and the Panamint and Inyo Mountains to the east are quite scenic. Although the trail is straightforward and the distance is short, the lake sees far fewer visitors than expected, helping to make this a fine destination for hikers, backpackers, anglers, and swimmers."
