This massive tower is located just south of the Third Needle, at the junction of the Muir Crest and the jagged Pinnacle Ridge. The east face of the pinnacle is quite monolithic and characterized by a prominent dihedral splitting the upper half of the face. Although not as well known as the neighboring Keeler Needle and Day Needle, the Aiguille Extra offers equally fine climbing in a wild alpine setting.
