Jalama Beach Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"How often does a paved road take you off the beaten path to hike an isolated scenic stretch of wild Pacific coastline? Did I mention that the road ends at a dog- friendly county park beach, where you and pooch can share quality time exploring several miles of surf and sand if you get the tide chart right?
The sense of remoteness from the undeveloped, rolling, oak-studded open space on the drive to Jalama Beach from Lompoc is just a prelude to Jalama Beach’s stunning solitary setting. There’s only one road in and out of here, and a railway that skirts the coast with no rail stops between Lompoc and Santa Barbara. The county park and beach are braced by secluded Vandenberg Air Force Base’s 98,000 acres, including 35 miles of coastline to the north and sprawling cattle ranch land to the south. Vandenberg Air Force Base is headquarters for the 30th Space Wing and 14th Air Force. It is Air Force Space Command’s premier missile base for missile testing and launching of satellites into polar orbit. This wild coast is out of sight in every way possible."
