Van Damme State Park Campgrounds Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Van Damme State Park lies along the most beautiful stretch of coast in America, where it doesn’t snow during the wintertime. There is a sandy beach where folks actually dare swim, as well as whales, abalone, antiques shops, a pygmy forest, fabulous restaurants, and tent pitches on moss so soft you’ll sleep like a baby. This is a well-run, friendly park. There are rangers, docents, and a campground host. Open all year, Van Damme is a park for all seasons.

There are a couple of decent hikes in the park. Head up the Fern Canyon Trail, which starts as a fire road at the east end of Lower Campground. Pass sword fern, redwood, hemlock, and fir along the canyon."
