Upper Cathedral Lake Trail

Upper Cathedral Lake Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"We admit it: The Cathedral Lakes can be crowded, especially during the day. But the scenery is classic Yosemite: a basin of gray-white granite holding an azure lake whose serene waters reflect the unmistakable, elegant spire of Cathedral Peak. Lower Cathedral Lake is as lovely as Upper Cathedral Lake, but as of this writing, Lower Cathedral Lake is closed to camping. No matter which lake is open to camping when you go, this trip is ideal for beginners. It’s also a fine dayhike."

Gorgeous scenery. Well used trail, lots of people, inc JMR hikers. Makes a great trip with 1st night Cathedral Lakes, 2nd Sunrise HSC, 3rd Sunrise Lakes with a day hike to Clouds Rest. Then hike to Tenaya and take shuttle back to car at Cathedral Trailhead. Or just hike out 3rd day.No more than 5 miles between camps per day and you don't have to retrace steps.
Pack out all tp and trash, but there's an outhouse and water at Sunrise. Campfires allowed at Sunrise but no showers available to public.
Moderate hikes due to length and some elevation gain on each section.
