"A fifty-five-mile highway that climbs from the high sagebrush desert at Lee Vining on the east slope of the Sierra Nevada over 9,945-foot Tioga Pass into Yosemite National Park. It passes glaciated domes and wide meadows before dropping through dense forest to Big Oak Flat Road west of Yosemite Valley. The Tioga Pass scenic drive twists across the southern Sierra Nevada mountains in Yosemite National Park and Inyo National Forest. The highway climbs through steep canyons, crosses grassy Tuolumne Meadows, passes under soaring granite domes etched by glaciers, offers one of California’s best views at Olmsted Point, and drops through a thick forest to Yosemite Valley.
