A visit to South Tufa is a requirement for every Yosemite-area tourist and hiker. This is certainly not a long walk, and in summer it is hot and crowded, but it is an absolutely unique location to experience. The odd-shaped tufa towers projecting skyward, the thick bands of alkali flies swarming the shores, and the expansive blue water and bright-blue skies all capture visitor’s imaginations. Children are especially drawn to the birds and flies along the shore.
