Saddlebag Lake Campground Professional Review and Guide
"The Sierra Nevada landscape is a pristine and dramatic mix of glacier-carved granite, snow-fed streams and lakes, wildflower-dotted meadows, and ancient forests; this is one of the most beautiful places in the world. At a high alpine elevation, the campground season is short, just a five-month stretch from June (sometimes later) to mid-October. Camping here is like eating the first local strawberries of spring after a winter of tasteless hothouse fruit: intense, sweet, and fleeting. It may spoil you for anyplace else."
--Jane & Hans Huber with Bill Mai, The Best In Tent Camping: Southern California (Menasha Ridge Press).
There are several larger campsites here to choose from and a nice hiking trail down to the lake, which is stocked with trout. Overall, one of the better campgrounds all around. Bathrooms are clean and taken care of everyday, but I'm still waiting for the day I don't have to hold my breath before going inside - but I'm not a hard-core camper, so maybe it's just me?
This is a nice campground, but you can't see the lake from it and the sites are very small. It was pretty busy when i was there. Courtright reservoir is awsome though which makes it worthwile staying here.
