Pothole Dome

Pothole Dome Professional Review and Guide

"Pothole Dome rests on the west end of Tuolumne Meadows. The trail skirts the edge of the fragile subalpine meadow to the trees at the base of the polished granite dome. The hike ascends the smooth and gentle rock slope past erratics, the rounded boulders that were transported and deposited by retreating glaciers. Flowing waters trapped beneath the glaciers formed the large and numerous potholes. From the 8,760-foot summit are sweeping vistas of Tuolumne Meadows, the Tuolumne River, Lembert Dome, Fairview Dome, Mount Gibbs, Mount Dana and the western part of the Cathedral Range."
