A challenging, classic Sierra ascent, with varied terrain and great views of the High Sierra, the Conness Glacier, and Saddlebag Lake. This hike starts high and is largely above tree line. The meadows and creek crossing in the beginning give way to open vistas of granitic terrain. Mount Conness is a popular peak with rock climbers because of its famous Harding Route, one of the great Sierra wall climbs. The route described here is non-technical, however, but spectacular and challenging—it feels longer than it looks on the map.
