The High Sierra Camps Loop is very popular, since the 5 backcountry camps are spaced about 6 to 10 miles apart, ideal for most backpackers. The loop is broken into two parts because most hikers don’t have six days free, and by being out fewer days, you will have a lighter pack. On your first day, when your pack is heaviest and you are perhaps are not in the best of shape, you have the shortest distance to hike, just 5.8 miles to Sunrise High Sierra Camp.
