Torrey Pines State Beach, Flat Rock

La Jolla, California

Torrey Pines State Beach, Flat Rock Professional Review and Guide

"Torrey Pines State Beach is a wide sandy beach backed by dramatic 300-foot sandstone bluffs, some of the tallest coastal cliffs in San Diego County. The beach is located between Del Mar and La Jolla beneath the wild, weather-beaten cliffs of Torrey Pines State Reserve. The hike follows the isolated southern portion of the state beach, passing deep badland canyons and razor-edged ridges dotted with Torrey pines. The beach continues to the tidepools at Flat Rock, an erosion-resistant slab rock protruding out to sea. The return route climbs the sculpted sedimentary cliffs to the bluffs and loops back on the descending park road."

This trail is inside the statepark so there is a fee of 10 bucks. The trails here shoot off a main paved pathway along the coast. Very beautiful and busy. There are several developed areas such as a garden and the trail is well maintained.
