"The easy 1.5-mile loop around Zumwalt Meadow offers a leisurely way to become acquainted with the ecology of Kings Canyon. An inexpensive pamphlet, filled with interesting tidbits about the area’s natural history and sold at the trailhead, is a fine complement to the circuit around the meadow. The loop offers plenty of fine scenery as well, with fine views of Zumwalt Meadow, South Fork Kings River, and the geologic features of Kings Canyon, including Grand Sentinel and North Dome."

"Zumwalt Meadow is a lush, verdant meadow along the banks of the South Fork Kings River. The trail circles the perimeter of the meadow, from the talus slope of fractured rocks above the meadow to the moist, marshy forest canopy. Two granite monoliths, North Dome and Grand Sentinel, tower above the steep canyon."
