Macedonia Canyon Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Macedonia Canyon Trail is a sandy trail that connects the southern end of New York Mountains Trail with Kelso-Cima Road. The trail is well marked at the start. It immediately drops down into the loose, gravelly wash of Macedonia Canyon and descends steadily between the high walls of the canyon, before spilling out onto the bajada that leads down to Kelso Wash. As the trail leaves Macedonia Canyon, a spur leads 1.9 miles to the remains of the Columbia Mine that are scattered around the hillside. Special Attractions: Can be combined with New York Mountains Trail to exit to the west; Long trail in a spectacular canyon; Remains of the Columbia Mine. High-clearance 4WDs are preferred, but any high-clearance vehicle is acceptable. Expect a rough road surface; mud and sand are possible but will be easily passable. You may encounter rocks up to 6 inches in diameter, a loose road surface, and shelf roads, though these will be wide enough for passing or will have adequate pull-offs."

"This is a short cruise down a wash in a low canyon between the Providence Mountains, to the south, and the Mid Hills, to the north. It provides fine vistas across broad, sloping valleys to distant mountain ranges. Getting to the route requires driving about half of Wild Horse Canyon Road. Watch out for desert tortoises in the road."
