This hike is relentless in its ascent but short enough and definitely rewarding enough to be worth the workout. You’ll be awed by the views and pooch will love the shallow, cool wading waters of Fern Lake, not to mention the most perfect picnic rock on the breezy edge of the lake. Before you step onto the narrow, sandy trail squeezed between two boulders, point pooch to the stream on the left of the parking area for a pre-hike plunge.

The trail description was accurate and helpful. This was a fun hike to take my dog on. It's a mix of shade and open and we had a nice breeze so it never got too hot. There's a nice log bridge across the stream where the trail splits up to Fern lake and Yost which is a good spot to take a breather. The lake was pretty, surrounded by peaks and fairly quiet, there were maybe three other groups there. We went up in about 1 hour 15 minutes and came down in about 40 minutes. Great hike, great for dogs.
