Oriflame and Chariot Canyons Drive Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"West of S2 rise the coffee-brown ramparts of the steep and rugged Laguna Mountains, deeply incised with canyons like Oriflame and, over the crest to the north, Chariot. Both canyons have long been corridors over the mountains for Native Americans, 18thcentury Spanish travelers, mule-borne passengers of the short-lived San Antonio–San Diego Mail line and gold seekers lured here during the Julian–Banner rush of the 1870s. Today’s adventure drivers, hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians are drawn by inspiring views down long, steep canyons and across lofty ridges that form a transition zone between coastal and desert environments."
