"The dirt roads in Covington Flats provide access to some of the park’s largest and oldest Joshua trees, as well as some of the lushest high desert in the region. The views from 5,518-foot Eureka Peak are outstanding."

Easy easy drive. No 4x4 needed. road is well maintained by NPS. I gave this drive 4 stars because of the views!!! Covington Flats is amazing, the Joshua Tree forest is fantastic!!! Though there is some fire damage. Aprox 1 and a half years ago, a fire moved though the area, so you will see some burn scars. Now the Highlight and the crown of this drive is Eureka Peak. Wow!!! It is an amazing view of Palm Springs, Morongo Basin, and San Jacinto and San Gorgonio Mountains... it is almost a good as Keys View! Actually, I would prefer Eureka Peak over Keys View, less people and no cost to get to. So have fun and enjoy this view... breathtaking!! I will be posting photos here soon....
