The acquisition of approximately 3500 acres of Daley Ranch property near Jamul in 2001 by California’s Wildlife Conservation Board led to the establishment of the Hollenbeck Canyon Wildlife Area, now being managed by the California Department of Fish and Game. About half of the property remains closed to the public, while the remaining half is open for hiking, horseback riding, and seasonal bird hunting (late October through January).

I did this hike with my 3 year old son and we loved it. There was lots of shade, and he liked playing by the water. It's a pretty mellow trail, very serene.

This is a great hike. With the large shade trees and the water crossings, well it made my lab happy. The view from whats left of the original house is beautiful. Would like to see a little more wildlife. Worth the drive if you don't live in East County.
