Trans-Sierra Trek: Onion Valley to Cedar Grove Professional Review and Guide
"This route provides the least difficult east-west traverse across the High Sierra. However, the trip is not easy: the long drive between Onion Valley and Roads End Trailheads, which requires almost as much time as the hike itself, is enough to deter most hikers. You have to decide whether to attempt this trip as a dayhike or as an overnight backpack. The main advantage to a one-day trip is not having to carry a full backpack, but the 21-mile distance requires an early start and excellent conditioning. Additionally, dayhikers do not have to compete for the limited number of wilderness permits."
