As is the case with University Peak, Mount Gould’s neighbor to the south, the best time to ski Mount Gould is in the spring before or immediately after Onion Valley Road is opened to Onion Valley. The road usually opens in April or early May. Although Mount Gould can be completed in a long day from Onion Valley, a two- or three-day trip will provide more time to explore the lake basin to the north of Golden Trout Lake, the steep gullies of Dragon Peak, and Kearsarge Peak. This is also an excellent winter overnight trip with a base camp at Golden Trout Lake.
