Al Green and other members of the China Lake Search and Rescue Group have unofficially named this peak in honor of Carl Heller, the founder of their team. Green said, “All of us feel that Mt. Heller’s east ridge is one of the best Class 3 climbs in the range. We would really appreciate having that appear in your book.” Carl Heller had attempted this climb many times before succeeding in making the first ascent. The attractive arete offers fine climbing in a remote setting.
