The three lakes generally referred to as the Golden Trout Lakes (only the southernmost lake has the official name) provide fine destinations for either a pleasant day hike or an overnight backpack. The lakes are cradled in talus-filled cirques just below the Sierra Crest in the shadow of Mount Gould and Dragon Peak. Very few trails allow hikers into such an austere alpine environment with so little effort.
