West Face

West Face Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This is the section of Tahquitz Rock directly above Lunch Rock, bordered on the left side by the large corner that runs diagonally up and right (The Trough, 5.4) and on the right by the gigantic arête of The Edge. Many of the routes on the center of the face converge at Lunch Ledge, several hundred feet up the face directly above Lunch Rock and 10 feet above a prominent, solitary pine tree. The West Face stays in the shade for most of the morning, making it a good place for an early start on a hot day."

"This monolithic headwall is the steepest and most exposed sector of Tahquitz Rock, featuring some of the very best routes, including The Vampire (5.11a), considered by many climbers to be the best climb in Southern California. During the summer this wall remains shady all morning long and gets sun in the afternoon."
