Skunk Cabbage Meadow

Skunk Cabbage Meadow Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The Devils Slide Trail is the main trail out of Idyllwild. Cattle ranchers used to drive their herds up through the loose and dangerous slopes over thorn bushes, boulders, and logs to summer pastures in Tahquitz Valley. The trail is now so wellgraded that some have rechristened it Angel’s Glide, but it nevertheless has a strenuous start if you are hiking with a heavy pack."

"This area burned in the 2013 Mountain Fire. As of 2016, the trail remains closed east of Saddle Junction. Check with the Idyllwild Ranger Station at 909-382-2921 to determine if the trail has reopened. This rather short trip uses the Devils Slide Trail to o?er a small sampling of the beautiful San Jacinto Wilderness. You climb to Saddle Junction, then continue a slight distance to Skunk Cabbage Meadow, an emerald-green oasis set amid the dark forest. An overnight stay in the Skunk Cabbage Zone is guaranteed to please." Read more
