Mount San Jacinto State Park: Idyllwild Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Mount San Jacinto encompasses 13,500 acres of high-country wilderness. The park is ideal for backpackers, but day hikers can also enjoy a rewarding backcountry experience. The park can be accessed from its western border via CA 243 or from its eastern border via the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, a 2.5-mile cable car ride that ascends more than 1 mile vertically.
Hiking is the main attraction of this park. Trails connect both ends of the park, and another climbs San Jacinto Peak (10,804 feet), the highest mountain in Southern California. The Pacific Crest Trail passes through the park. Since the campgrounds are open all year, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are popular in the winter. Elevation 5,400 feet. Stay limit fifteen days from June through September, thirty days from October through May."
