Iron Gate is in extreme northern California and relatively remote but very accessible. The yellow perch in Iron Gate are worth any effort you have to make to reach this water. They’re a virtual bonanza for fly rodders! Red patterns are the ticket to reaching perch nirvana around here. A sunken Royal Red Humpy or San Juan Worm is like candy to these game fish. It’s a perfect game for four-weight outfits. Types of Fish: Rainbow and brown trout; largemouth, smallmouth, and spotted bass; crappie; yellow perch. This fly-fishing chapter describes the "where, when, and how" for fishing in this area. It includes a full-page map and information on the known hatches, suggested equipment to use, the best flies to use, season, limits, nearby accommodations, and camping.
