Look for a clear day to hike through this volcanic terrain up to spectacular vistas overlooking Silver Lake, the Mokelumne Wilderness, the Desolation Wilderness, and Kirkwood Meadows. The trail winds steadily up about 1,500 feet through huge, sloping meadows full of wildflowers and often thick stands of pine and fir. This trail takes you to Amador County’s unnamed high point with the namesake peak as a lower and farther alternate.

This is a fantastic hike. The trail is mainly soft dirt and is a steady climb. Easy on your knees with the gradual grade. The scenery is beautiful, the trail is easy to follow and the views are spectacular. We had to stop about 150 feet from the top due to snow, but it was well worth the trek. We had lunch on a side mountain, thimble peak. Can't wait to take other hikers up to this jewel above silver lake.
