Visitor Center to South Wilderness Professional Review and Guide
"The trailhead at the entrance to the campground’s paved road is nothing to get excited about, but it gets better quickly. First you are rewarded with two condorspotting telescopes on an ADA-accessible concrete pad within 200 feet of the trailhead. After the first 0.5 mile across the campground—paralleling or walking on the paved campground road—the hike is on a pleasant, lightly used dirt trail lacing a pine woodland and meadow portal to the solitude of the South Wilderness, then tracing the seasonal Chalone Creek at the foot of chaparral-covered hills."
