Healdsburg Ridge Professional Review and Guide

"Healdsburg Ridge Open Space Preserve sits on the prominent oak-dotted ridgeline at the northern end of Healdsburg. The park was opened to the public in 2008. The 161 acres of parkland contain a network of trails in scenic forested hills that lead to five beautiful overlooks. There is a wide variety of natural communities, including woodlands, open grasslands, and rocky chaparral, as well as wetlands, vernal pools, and a pond. This double-loop trail travels through the wide array of habitats, including four of the overlooks and Fox Pond. The Russian River Overlook offers a postcard-perfect view of the river at River’s Bend, framed by the surrounding vineyards. Other overlooks offer panoramas of Fitch Mountain, the Mayacamas Mountains (including Mount Saint Helena), and the coastal range. The trails weave through the oak groves and mixed evergreen forest to the overlooks. Fox Pond, a small but scenic tarn, has lily pads covering its western edge."
