Highway 96 to Interstate 5 Professional Review and Guide
"PCT hikers who have used the Volume 1: California guide will note that its Section R is essentially the same as this volume’s Section A. The reason for this duplication is that the Pacific Crest Trail crosses the California-Oregon border in the middle of nowhere, roughly midway between Seiad Valley, on Highway 96, and Ashland, on Interstate 5. Hence, hikers wanting to do every foot of California will logically continue northeast toward Ashland (or at least to Interstate 5), while those wanting to hike north along every foot of Oregon will logically start near Seiad Valley."
--Jeffrey P. Schaffer, Pacific Crest Trail: Oregon and Washington (Wilderness Press).
