Bluff Trail

Bluff Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"In a spectacular remote region with open space dominated by state parks that restrict dogs to the parking lot or campground, it is a treat to find a hike that serves rugged Pacific Coast panoramas with a trail suitable for all levels of human and canine energy. Bluff Trail’s flat meadow terrain with patches of coastal forest is exposed to sun, wind, and fog depending on Mother Nature’s mood.

The short ADA-accessible loop within the park is a perk that allows physically disabled visitors with dogs to connect with nature on the invigorating Pacific Coast. The trail begins at the visitor center in Gualala Point Regional Park and traces Sea Ranch’s private community bluffs for 3.0 miles along a public- access trail."

"Ranking as one of the best coastal hikes, this trail is brimming with scenic views and opportunities to sample beaches, coves, and picnic perches. But what makes this trail unique is the fact that although it begins in a regional park, by agreement most of it traces the bluffs of a private residential and exclusive resort community. The hike begins in Gualala Point Regional Park, at the northernmost end of the Sonoma coast overlooking the picturesque Gualala River estuary, and continues in the Sea Ranch residential community. The park and its residential neighbor share some of the same history, beginning with the Pomo Indians, whose seasonal migration to the shores and lifestyle were gentle on the environment. In the early 1800s the Russians’ endeavors of hunting sea otters and logging redwoods left a much less kind imprint." Read more
