Gray Lodge Wildlife Area Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Thousands of migrating and resident waterfowl forage, rest, and nest in the restored wetlands of Gray Lodge Wildlife Area, on the north side of the Sutter Buttes. These two trails, both featuring observation blinds, wind through a complex of ponds and marshes that offer the birds shelter and sustenance throughout the year.
On a sunny day in early November, the marshes of Gray Lodge Wildlife Area clamor. Rafts of ducks paddle on the ponds, too many to count. When they take off, their wings thump the surface, sounding like an old motor turning over. In the reeds the songbirds sing, but they are well camouflaged—ubiquitous little brown birds."
