Long Lake Loop

Long Lake Loop Professional Review and Guide

"The extensive network of connecting trails in the Lakes Basin Recreation Area provides multiple options for loop trails of varying lengths.

Perhaps none of these prospective trips captures the essence of the area better than this loop around the largest lake accessible by trail in the Lakes Basin. Not only will you pass by picturesque Long Lake and several other fine lakes en route, but the circuit visits many fine vista points as well. Extending the trip to the surrounding lakes is quite possible via a number of connecting trails."

This is an awesome trail but I think the author is a little short on the milage I would figure another mile and half. I doubt that you can make it in less than three hours. It has everything you expect in this rugged country. There is a half mile of talus slope on the side of Mount Elwell. I would suggest you opted to got to Long Lake and return via Bear Lakes or go by Silver and Round Lakes. You have better views of the lakes and the country. Don't get me wrong if you have the time certainly I would do it but if your time is short in the area I suggest the alternates.
