Sonoma Mountain Trail to summit

Sonoma Mountain Trail to summit Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Sonoma Mountain stretches from Santa Rosa to Sonoma. The volcanic range forms the western side of the 17-mile-long Sonoma Valley. Sonoma Valley is also known as the Valley of the Moon, named after the Jack London book of the same name. This hike climbs to the summit of the range through the backcountry of Jack London State Historic Park. The hike, which mainly follows a fire road, leads through unspoiled forests with redwoods, bigleaf maple, black oak, buckeye, bay, and madrone to the Park Summit. Park Summit is a short distance east of the 2,463-foot summit of Sonoma Mountain. (The actual summit sits just outside the park boundary on private land.)"

There’s a section of the Bay Area Ridge Trail between Jack London State Historic Park & North Sonoma Mountain Regional Park. Begin at writer Jack London’s captivating Beauty Ranch. Explore the ranch buildings & learn about his experiments in farming. After passing through the ranch, the route climbs Sonoma Mountain. The views of the Valley of the Moon are stupendous. The trail continues into the new North Sonoma Mountain Regional Park. There are vistas of magical Bennett Valley, which Native Americans considered sacred.
