Jordan Drive Professional Review and Guide

"The sweeping vistas from the summit of Jordan Peak easily justify the long and scenic mountain drive to the trailhead. As you will see while atop Jordan Peak, glaciers largely did not affect the extreme southern Sierra Nevada. The landscape that meets your gaze, especially the Kern Plateau to the east, clearly illustrates the rounded, plateau-like character of the region that presented itself millions of years ago, before the Sierra Nevada batholith began uplifting to its present height. Many lofty, alpine peaks in the High Sierra also escaped glaciation, standing far above the rivers of ice, so they, too, are remnants of the broad, gentle surfaces that characterized the region in ancient times."
