Lookout Peak, a boulder-stacked granite crag, lies just outside the Monarch Wilderness boundary on the western edge of Kings Canyon National Park. Its 8,531-foot summit stands more than 4,000 feet above Kings Canyon, one of the Sierra Nevada’s most profound gorges. The short but fairly rigorous hike to the summit block rewards hikers with stunning vistas into Kings Canyon, and beyond the canyon to the lofty crags of the High Sierra.
