The Don Cecil Trail climbs six miles up the north-facing slopes of Kings Canyon to Lookout Peak. This hike heads up to Sheep Creek, serving as the water supply for Cedar Grove Village. The trail crosses Sheep Creek in a deep gorge by a series of cascades, fern-lined pools and a wooden bridge crossing. The 11,000-foot peaks of the Monarch Divide can be seen across Kings Canyon to the north.

Easy to moderate hike, excellent trail, ~90% in shade. The trail peaks ~0.15 before the cascades; the last leg is a slight downhill. If you stand on the footbridge just above the main cascade and face upstream, you'll feel a nice, cool breeze coming down the canyon. [Note: Adventurous? Head off-trail where it peaks, uphill ~1 mi. toward the south, and continue generally southeast toward a notch on the promontory at 7,100' (see topo). You'll get an awesome view up-canyon toward Grand Sentinel.]
