Big Baldy is a bare, rocky knob with great panoramas in every direction. A forested path to the 8,209-foot summit follows a ridge with several overlooks along the east wall of Redwood Canyon. Redwood Mountain, Sugarbowl Grove and the foothills can be seen in the distance.

This is a fantastic hike for people of all levels as it includes a few moderate uphill climbs, however the majority of the trail is fairly flat and fast. The panoramic views at the top are amazing! Plan to spend some time up there watching birds, checking out the vistas and just relaxing.

Very pleasant and scenic hike, becoming more spectactular as it progresses. Several views of Big Baldy come into view as you approach; you can also see it from one of the turnouts on the road coming to the trailhead. Lots of unusual trees and one very large uproot compliment the smaller features such as wildflowers and blooming shrubs. On the hike back, a large rock near the trailhead looks like a dinosaur watching you approach!
