Sunrise Basin, Horseshoe Lake, and Ward Lake Loop

Sunrise Basin, Horseshoe Lake, and Ward Lake Loop Professional Review and Guide

"You may see other recreational enthusiasts on this trip, but certainly not as many as on the Caribou Lakes Trail from Big Flat, or on the alternate route up Swift Creek to Horseshoe Basin and Ward lakes. If you want to escape the crowds and scale some peaks, a whole row of lofty summits is along a crest that this route crosses twice, from Red Rock Mountain on the north end down to Tri- Forest Peak on the south. A side trip to Landers Lake is a relatively straightforward addition as well, via either an off-trail or on-trail route. An extended loop of 29 miles would add Landers Lake, upper Union Creek, Parker Creek, and Parker Meadow to the itinerary (see Trip 11, page 111, for more information). Careful study of a map of the Trinity Alps will reveal even more possibilities for trip extensions."
