Gulch Lakes Loop

Gulch Lakes Loop Professional Review and Guide

"This beautiful loop in a remote corner of the Trinity Alps Wilderness ascends one meadow-clad canyon and descends into another, adjacent canyon with more meadows and a raucous creek. The highlight of the loop is a pair of superb lakes nestled in giant granite cirques at the head of each canyon. Most of the Trinity Alps lie in the large Trinity River watershed, its creeks and rivers south before joining the main stem of the Trinity.

However, the northern fringe of this vast block of mountains drains two other rivers that are also tributaries of the
Klamath River. The northeast corner is the headwaters of the Scott River; the remote mountains a little farther west are the source of the Salmon River. The mountains where these rivers begin are the Scott and Salmon Mountains, respectively."
