North Fork Kern River Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Anything as rare as Wild and Scenic that can be accessed on foot is worth checking out. Kern River canyon is impressive at every bend. In the late season or following a low precipitation winter when the water level has dropped and the flow has mellowed, the exposed stretch of beach closest to the stairway is a pleasant launching pad for water-loving dogs, following a leisurely one-hour hike up the canyon and back, to get the flavor of the untamed river that owns the scenic Kern canyon."

The North Fork Kern River has carved a starkly beautiful canyon. Few hikes begin by crossing a bridge, high above a raging river. There was a lot of action at the Johnsondale Bridge when I was there including raft put-ins & fishing. The thunderous sounds of the river are with you all the way, sometimes echoing from the rocks. Various wildflowers were scattered beside the trail.

I posted more info about the hike at hikingthegoldenstate.com.
