Eureka Waterfront Trail Professional Review and Guide
"This short but thoughtfully developed multiuse trail known as the Hikshari’ Trail showcases the Elk River, where it ?ows into the estuary and south Humboldt Bay. This is a signi?cant scenic stitch in the 4 miles of waterfront trail that will be added to the Hikshari’ Trail to create an impressive 6.5-mile waterfront trail around Eureka by 2018.Hikshari’ is the Wiyot Indian place name for this portion of Humboldt Bay where the Wiyot native people lived for thousands of years. This trail is a sneak preview of what the eventual 6.5 miles of Eureka Waterfront Trail will look like when it is completed in 2018 according to current projections. The trail begins in the Pound Road Park and Ride lot off US 101. At first glance, there is nothing particularly attractive or promising about this trail."
