Lake Hodges, a city of San Diego reservoir, is also a key unit of the sprawling San Dieguito River Park, now taking shape along 55 miles of river valley from the coast at Del Mar to the Volcan Mountains near Julian. This trip travels one of most scenic segments of the Coast to Crest Trail, which when completed around 2016 will span about 70 trail-miles between the ocean and the crest of the Peninsular Ranges.
