Murray Reservoir offers year-round, world-class bass and wonderful winter trout fly fishing for anglers short on time. Located just ten miles from downtown San Diego, Murray Reservoir is the most centrally located reservoir in the county, yet its proximity to a large population center doesn’t seem to adversely affect the quality of the angling experience. This fishery consistently produces largemouth bass in the 15- to 20-pound class. It offers steady action in the winter for stocked rainbows up to five pounds, and provides the panfish enthusiast a year-round chance to hook dinner-plate-sized crappie or bluegill. Types of Fish: Stocked rainbow trout, Florida largemouth bass, and panfish. This fly-fishing chapter describes the "where, when, and how" for fishing in this area. It includes a full-page map and information on the known hatches, suggested equipment to use, the best flies to use, season, limits, nearby accommodations, and camping.
