This ambitiously constructed trail, through tough terrain and dense chaparral most of the way, takes you circuitously down the gorge of Pine Valley Creek. Completed in 1992, the trail takes advantage of an old, never-completed flume that would have shunted water from a proposed reservoir in Pine Valley over to King Creek (a tributary of the San Diego River) on the west side of the Cuyamaca Mountains. A middle segment of the Secret Canyon Trail follows some of the longest and best-preserved sections of this circa 1895 engineering effort.
