This hike is especially rewarding during the winter months, when melting snow or soggy ground at higher elevations in the Cuyamacas can make hiking in those areas difficult. A good part of the route is open to the winter sun’s southern rays, and the added warmth is welcome and invigorating at that time. The hike is also short enough to be suitable for a sunrise or a sunset stroll, even during the hottest months of late spring and early summer.
